What To Expect From the Meister Commercial Graduate Trainee Program

In 2021, Meister launched the Commercial Graduate Trainee Program and welcomed its first intake of talented trainees. It’s a program designed to give graduates a unique opportunity to rotate between 3 different departments over a period of 18 months: 6 months in the Marketing, Sales and Customer Success departments respectively. In September 2021, trainees Anabel Arndt, Marlene Lechner and Matthias Lasselsberger became part of the Meister team. They were excited to share their personal insights and their experiences in the fast-paced world of an international tech company.

Why Did You Apply to the Commercial Graduate Trainee Program?

After reading about the culture at Meister, it was an easy decision for me to apply.

Anabel Arndt, Commercial Graduate Trainee

Anabel: As a recent graduate, deciding on your next steps can be really daunting. I found it reassuring to learn that Meister’s Commercial Graduate Trainee Program would give me a great opportunity to explore career paths for myself, while still being challenged and given my fair share of responsibility. After reading about the culture at Meister – especially in terms of flexibility and the opportunity to focus on personal and professional development – it was an easy decision for me to apply.

Marlene: I wanted to work in an environment with a start-up vibe, one that offered flexibility while feeling welcoming and comfortable. When I read about the Meister program, everything clicked. It was obvious that it could offer me an unparalleled learning experience after finishing my studies. The Commercial Graduate Trainee Program was exactly what I was looking for.

Matthias: I was looking for a commercial entry position, but not just anything: I needed a challenge that excited and inspired me, one that would enable me to further develop my knowledge and skill set. Meister’s Commercial Graduate Trainee Program ticked all my boxes.

How Does the Program Work on a Day-to-Day Basis?

The best thing was to be entrusted with a project of our own – a joint project on Corporate Social Responsibility at Meister.

Matthias Lasselsberger, Commercial Graduate Trainee

Matthias: All three Commercial Graduate Trainees are encouraged to buddy up and communicate closely with each other so that we support each other from day one. In our roles, we get to collaborate on cross-departmental initiatives. However, for me personally, the best thing was to be entrusted with a project of our own – a joint project on Corporate Social Responsibility at Meister. This gave us an opportunity to take ownership of a completely independent project.

Anabel: As Matthias mentioned, the group project was a highlight: it was a really rewarding experience to work together throughout the entire program. All three of us were very proud that Meister trusted us to build something so important together. Collaboration between the three departments varies by project, and team alignment between the departments is essential. You are surrounded by experts in a variety of fields, and these individuals have been very supportive with their valuable ideas and inputs.

Marlene: The three commercial departments we rotate between – Marketing, Sales and Customer Success – are closely connected. It is essential for all of them to communicate and work together, which is why the Commercial Graduate Trainees assume such an important role in fostering this collaboration.

What Makes Meister’s Commercial Graduate Trainee Program So Special?

The variety helps us learn about how each department’s strategic goals are aligned.

Marlene Lechner, Commercial Graduate Trainee

Marlene: The best thing about the Commercial Graduate Trainee program is that by diving deeply into all three commercial departments, we gain a comprehensive understanding of each commercial process. The variety helps us learn about how each department’s strategic goals are interconnected and aligned. Personally, I was really excited about the learning and growing opportunities the program offered. Since this is my first full-time job, it’s such a privilege to be part of different projects and to develop a truly diverse skill set that aligns with my own strengths.

Matthias: The traineeships typically available to graduates are with big, multinational corporations. However, the extensive alumni systems and defined career pathways can make their programs pretty inflexible. At Meister, we get to be part of a fast-growing and ever-changing working environment, while enjoying the freedom to shape the traineeship in line with our own needs and expectations. The rotation between the commercial departments offers a unique experience that combines different commercial views in one bigger picture. Rotating every 6 months allows us to fully immerse ourselves in a variety of different and genuinely interesting projects – so it certainly never gets boring.

Anabel: I agree with Matthias here. Our Commercial Graduate Trainee Program is truly special because of the freedom it offers. There is a lot of room for self-development, particularly because you are encouraged to make your own decisions and learn from the outcomes. I also love that even while you’re being mentored, you’re treated as an equal; it doesn’t matter where your team-mates are in the leadership chain. It makes for a very open, collaborative and transparent working environment with plenty of room for personal growth.
