We know it’s been a while since we shared our preview of the upcoming MindMeister for iPad app, so we wanted to give you all an update on its progress.

We mentioned in our teaser that we were aiming for the end of May as a release date. Needless to say, that time has come and gone. There are a number of reasons for the delay, but mainly it was because a few weeks ago, when testing various online/offline scenarios, we decided to rewrite the entire sync API of the app. The new architecture is much more stable and will also allow us to provide real-time collaboration functionality in the iPhone and iPad app in future releases (that is, between mobile apps and the web as well as between mobile apps themselves),

Needless to say, re-writing an API takes a considerable amount of time and resources. We’ve been a bit reticent on posting updates, as it was always one of those, “We’re so close…gimme one more day of code time to sort this out,” which inevitably became a week (or 8).

We’re happy with and confident enough to announce that we’re 99.44 percent done with v1.0, and it will be submitted (fingers crossed) to Apple this week for approval. We’d like to thank each and every one of you who left comments expressing your interest in the MindMeister iPad app.

14 July 10 – An update to the update: The app is in the hands of Apple, we’re now waiting on approval.

Calling all iPad developers

The rather embarrassing delays in getting the iPad app out the door made us realize that we have some resource challenges in the mobile app department. So if you’re a talented Objective-C developer with considerable iPhone or iPad experience, we want to hear from you! This is your opportunity to contribute to the world’s leading online mind mapping solution, so show us what you’ve got, and get in touch.
