MindMeister users, we are very happy to announce the inclusion of MindMeister in the Google Chromebook education app packs. We are delighted to be involved in this project, which will enhance the teaching and learning experiences of students and teachers across the world. For us, this is another step in the right direction, following our recent integration with Google Drive, in making MindMeister available and accessible to everyone.
For so many people the internet has become a part of everyday life. It’s available at your fingertips, on a range of different devices. This brings heaps of new opportunities in terms of education, as there is now an unlimited amount of teaching resources and tools available to both students and teachers alike.
Chromebook for Education is a new computer, which is being rolled out in schools across the US and Europe. The laptops offer a very cost effective solution for putting technology in the hands of students and teachers. With fast start-up times, long battery life and an operating system that never slows down, the Chromebook is the perfect device for educating tomorrow’s generation.
MindMeister Chrome App
The MindMeister mind mapping app benefits all levels of education and is the perfect platform for bridging school and home activities. Our design is simple, making it very easy to use, explore and take advantage of MindMeister’s many features. The share and collaborate functions enable teachers to share notes and ideas with their students. Teachers can also encourage group learning, where students can exchange information and correct each others’ mistakes. These features are what allows for the close and seamless integration between the MindMeister Chrome App and Chromebook for Education.
Applications for Education
With so many apps now available in the Chrome Web Store, it can be quite a daunting task to search through them, trying to find which one is best for you or your students. For this reason, Chromebook have helped the selection process by creating application packs, which will make it easier to find, use, install and manage web apps for your entire school.
- Grade-level application packs are groups of Chrome Web Store apps that integrate tightly with Google’s suite of Apps for Education, divided by grade levels to meet different classroom needs. These packs are installable from the Chromebook management console. Many of them are free and we’ve worked with the app makers to offer discounts for bulk purchases.
- Organization-specific web app collections in the Chrome Web Store give administrators the ability to recommend apps to students, teachers and staff. The collection is visible only to the school, and admins can curate apps from the Chrome Web Store, application packs and web apps purchased elsewhere or private apps developed by the school. (This feature is also available to Chromebooks for Business customers from the control panel.)
The Chromebook team attended the ISTE (International Society for Technology in Education) Conference this week in California where they introduced some of these new features.
