Mind mapping is a fantastic technique when it comes to brainstorming ideas, taking notes, outlining strategies and planning projects. But we all know that the work doesn’t stop there. Once you’ve got your idea, your strategy, your project plan ready, it’s time to turn it into action. But how?

Introducing: MeisterTask
MeisterTask is an intuitive task management and collaboration tool that seamlessly integrates with our online mind mapping app MindMeister. The integration lets you turn your mind maps into agile project boards and import all your creative ideas as tasks, so you can start executing them as soon as your brainstorming session is finished.
Take a look at this short video to see this new workflow in action:
But that’s not all.

Turn Mind Maps into Agile Projects
Get Started
Is the integration one way only (tasks sucked into MeisterTask, and then live their own life) ?
…or if I update a task in MeisterTask, does it\’s new status show up in the original mindmap (so for eg I can see it is now completed)
Hi Neil, yes, the integration works both ways, although (at the moment) it still has to originate from MindMeister. There are a number of task properties on MindMeister that are updated when changed in MeisterTask:
node title – task title
node note – task description
node link – added as the last line of the task description
node task assignee – task assignee
node task due date – task due date
node task completion (0% and 100%) – task status (open, completed)
when trashing a task in MT the task info is removed from the MM node as well
A new task in MeisterTask creating a new node on the mind map would be ace.
also, ridiculously confusing calling it MeisterTask, should be TaskMeister…
Definitely, we would have done that, had we been able to get the domain! 🙂
MindTaskMeister would be great too :).
Of course, if we could have an integrated Gantt I could retire most other apps I use and commit my life to MM & MT!
+1 If only it included task dependency, effort estimation and time tracking… Anyway, it\’s looking great!
Hi Juan,
Time tracking and task dependency both exist, but only in basic forms at the moment. You can enable those features in the project info dialog! We\’re also looking into effort estimation, but it\’s not available yet. We\’ll keep you posted!
Can you make the task dependency more automatic?
LG
Love it!
well done guys, as a app owner myself I\’m pretty jealous of your theme design and the great comms and look and feel of it all..
very squeaky clean… love it.
….so so jealous.
Hey Sowrabh,
Thanks so much for your kind words, that means a lot! We do put a lot of thought into the design of our apps and it\’s great to know that people appreciate it.
What\’s the name of your app?
Hi,
I have a webapp at http://tradingconsistently.com
I\’m happy with my site, but my app looks very dated. 🙁 Working on it.
Question – do you guys use some kind of framework to create your apps?
We don\’t use any framework, no. We\’re just very lucky to work with some great designers and we spend a lot of time optimizing usability 🙂
Stll don`t understand it- In my Meistermap I can`t find any possibillity to export Branches to Meister Task. Where`s the grey line in the movie? Whrere an export Bitton or something like that?
Hi M,
In order to see the MeisterTask footer in your mind map editor, you need to connect with MeisterT. Just go to http://www.meistertask.com and sign in with your existing MindMeister username/email and password. Once you\’re in the footer should appear in MindMeister!
Well i am glad you are going to have mobile apps but I won\’t be able to effectively use it until you create an android app. What\’s the ETA?
Hi Rob,
We weren\’t actually planning to release an Android app right away, but many people have requested it by now and we\’ve started looking into ways to realize it earlier than originally planned. I can\’t give you an exact ETA yet, but we\’ll keep you posted!
This next step definitely had to be taken, great job guys! Any plans to sync MeisterTask with other popular task management apps such as ToDoist or WunderList?
Hi Steven,
Thanks so much, glad you like it! There will be an API for MeisterTask and we\’re also working on a number of import options, for instance for Trello. We take all suggestions into consideration, though, so if you have any other ideas, just let us know and we\’ll see what we can do!
I hope you have a Wunderlist integration soon. That would be a most awesome help! Love both mindmeister and meistertask! <3
I love MeisterTask!!! But I need a Calendar View like Trello. I know I can integrate GoogleCalendar with MeisterTask but I also need a Calendar View within MeisterTask. Please!!!
What I loved about dapulse is customized color-coding of individual task. So if you return to a board you would IMMEDIATELLY see which tasks have made progress. Right now in meistertask you just see a little icon indicating some has added a comment.
Also: How do I sync my tasks with Google Calender?
Hi Christoph,
Thanks a lot for your feedback. Currently, tasks turn orange when they are due/overdue, and they are marked with a green checkmark when they are completed. Additionally, you can use tags to indicate things like progress (e.g. a red tag for \”In Review\” or a green one for \”Ready\”).
But we\’ll take another look at dapulse and see if a similar color-coding system would make sense for us.
Regarding Google Calendar: The integration is in the works and should be available soon. We\’ll keep you posted!
Using the tags is a great idea. Haven\’t thought of that before. Thank you!
You might also consider developing an overview where all the last actions/changes of all projects are displayed. I\’m thinking of a list you can sort by project or by person to get an idea of the current progress.
Yes, this is definitely an important functionality as well. We currently have the activity stream inside the project, which keeps you up to date on everything going on inside this particular project, plus the notifications in the dashboard, which are meant to keep you up to date on the progress of all tasks you are involved in across all projects.
We will think about ways to enhance these functionalities, e.g. with a way to filter for specific people\’s actions, like you suggested!
I like MindMeister a lot. Two major things missing though for me. Google Calendar integration and some sort of Ghant chart. It\’s very easy to use mindmiester for the little tasks but for the big picture there\’s just no way I can use it in it\’s current form.
Hi Simon,
Thanks a lot for your feedback. It\’s true that we currently don\’t support the Gantt chart format (although this may potentially be added in the future), MindMeister does however have a Google Calendar integration, which you can enable in your settings (https://www.mindmeister.com/help/tools/tasks). Is this what you had been looking for?
Sorry I meant\’ MeisterTask!
Ah, well, the calendar integration for MeisterTask is already in the works, and we\’ll see what we can do about Gantt charts, it\’s definitely on our feature request list 🙂
Okay great. What I really want to do (which trello can\’t do) is make events which are tasks that span over the course of a few days on a calendar. With Trello you can integrate with a calendar but a task only shows up on the due date on the calendar. If there is a trade show on over the course of a few days. Or if there is a holiday a staff member is away for, then I want this information shown / blocked off on the calendar.
The thing about Kamban planning like Trello and Meistertask is that they\’re great for teams planning short term / agile type work. However for over seeing / project managment / future planning they\’re terrible. Right now you either have to choose one, or the other. There is no solution available online that does both. Believe me I spent an entire 8 hour work day yesterday looking. If you guys can do both, I swear you\’ll make a lot of people like us happy. Teams where team members require an agile platform and the project manager needs an overview version also.
If you can do that I\’ll literally fly over there and kiss every single one of you. Or I can just send you money and gifts. Take your pick.
I don\’t think that\’s been requested before actually. I can\’t make any promises, but I\’ll definitely pass it on to the team to look into! 🙂
Perhaps that\’s why it doesn\’t exist?! Well I know that Asana and Basecamp can do it. Basically you can say this person is working on this task Monday Tuesday and Wednesday. This person is going to a tradefair on Friday and Saturday. Not.. this persons task is due on Wednesday and this person has a trade fair due on Saturday. It misses out the important information of when should this task start and not only end.
Is there a reason the gantt feature is so hard to add? I\’ve been reading this request from users for the past 3 years of posts today and It\’s still not added. Surely there is a reason this is not being added. You have a superb design, but as someone who works on multiple projects across a single week and assigns multiple resources this is a must have.
Hello, thanks for getting in touch.
While it\’s absolutely possible that Gantt charts will be available in MindMeister at some point, it\’s simply not a high priority for us at the moment. We do realize that this format is extremely useful for some people and certain use cases, however, the amount of resources that would have to go into implementing this feature are disproportionately big compared to the number of our users who would benefit from it. Before we broaden the scope of MindMeister that much, we\’d like to focus on improving its core functionality and features first.
We hope you understand!
Hello MindMeister, any update on the Google Calendar integration? I\’m quite excited about this.
Hi Krista,
Yesterday we released an iCal feed for MeisterTask which lets you connect with Google Calendar and automatically adds tasks with due dates as events. This is still a very basic integration, but we\’re already working on the next steps! To make use of the iCal feed, please go to your account preferences in MeisterTask, open the Notifications tab and copy+paste the link there into Google Calendar.
Cheers
Yes! Got it! Thanks for this. 🙂
Newbie here, waiting for an android version. Can I opt-in for an announcement please?
Hi Gyulai, good to have you! We\’re getting closer and closer to our first Android version (which will be browser-based & include notifications). It really shouldn\’t be too long now! We\’ll announce it on our blog and all social channels when the time comes 🙂
Hi, I\’d like to be a beta tester for the Android app. I love MM & MT but I really don\’t want to go crawling back to apple! 🙂
Hi Arman, you can sign up as a beta tester for our Android app here: http://bit.ly/1NIIpFU 🙂
Cheers
Awesome! Thank you!
Speaking of: We\’ll need beta testers for the Android version soon. If you\’d like to get early access, we\’d be happy to add you to the list. Let me know!
Yep. Add me to the Android beta test list please.
I would love to be on the beta test group too!
Hi Joeh,
That\’s great. Please feel free to sign up for all our beta programs here: http://bit.ly/1NIIpFU
Cheers!
I like Mindmeister and so am curious as to how meistertask will work out. One thing I assumed was that if I completed a task in Meistertask it would show as completed in mindmeister, but that doesnt seem to be the case?
Also, how do you see all your tasks across all your projects?
Hi Simon,
The task status (open or completed) in MeisterTask should be synced with the completion rate in MindMeister (open corresponds to 0% done, complete corresponds to 100% done). If you are completing a task in MT and the connected topic in MindMeister is not automatically set to 100% completion, then this is probably a bug of some sort, in which case I\’d ask you to contact our support team for help.
You can see all your open tasks across all projects in the \’All tasks\’ widget in the upper right corner in MeisterTask. It\’s right next to your \’Focus\’ widget, which shows all your open tasks which are currently due, overdue or manually starred.
thanks, I dont think I was patient enough! I can see the blue ticks now 🙂
next question – how do i get section actions on the ios app?
At the moment Section Actions can only be configured in MeisterTask\’s web app, but once you\’ve set everything up the way you want they do of course apply to the tasks in your iOS app as well!
I think I just wasnt patient enough!
How do I export tasks from the ios version of MindMeister? There isnt the bottom bar like there is in the web version?
At the moment, the best way to do this is to connect the mind map with the project using MindMeister\’s web app. Once you\’ve done that you can simply use MindMeister\’s normal task management feature in the iOS app to turn topics into tasks. This will then automatically export the tasks to the connected project.
Is it possible to resize the columns and task sizes in Ios version to get more on the screen at once?
Hi Simon,
It\’s currently not possible, but I\’d be happy to add it to our feature request list for our iOS developers to look into.
Hi
You have earlier stated that an android app is in the works with an ETA og 2015 fall. Do you have any updates as to when android users can expect a native app?
Hi Stefan,
Due to a lack of human resources we\’re unfortunately a little behind with our Android app. From what it looks right now we should get the first version out in January (fingers crossed). Please note that this first version will be browser-based, but it\’ll include all notifications and be a big step up from the current option.
Thank you for bearing with us and happy holidays!
How about an option for automatically exporting Meistertasks as .csv to Google Drive? I love that functionality in Mindmeister, knowing everything is backed up every time I make a backup of my Google Drive.
Also, I vote for Gantt functionality! 🙂
I imported my Trello board into MeisterTask, but now all the attached web links (screenshot attached) are gone. What can be done about this?
Hi Max,
I just heard from our support team that you already contacted them, so I\’m sure you\’re in good hands now 🙂 As far as I know our development team will have this sorted out soon
Very good hands actually. Your support is amazingly fast.
? Glad to hear that!
What is the update on the Gantt chart feature? It’s been a few years since these posts saying it’s something you’re working on.
